Barclays hires 15 to equity division

Barclays Capital has hired 15 people across its equity-linked sales, trading and research desks in Europe, the US and Asia. The hires began at the beginning of the year, bringing the number of staff working across the equity division of the bank to 165, almost double the levels in 2003 when 85 people worked in equities.

In London, Stuart Jarvis has joined from Goldman Sachs as head of stock loan hedge fund distribution for Europe. Barlcays Capital also hired Axel Kaiser and Wolfgang Stefan, who both worked for Morgan Stanley, as directors in equity derivatives sales. Meanwhile, Barclays Capital snared Dirk Schremmer from Morgan Stanley as a director in equity derivatives sales in Frankfurt.

On the trading side, Nagi Bedawi has joined from Eton Park and Jorgen Jaehnig was hired from Deutsche Bank. Both work as directors in equity derivatives trading at Barclays Capital. David Moroney, meanwhile, was recruited from Swiss Re to take up the position of director in equity derivatives structuring.

In New York, Jerry Hammerschmidt was hired as a director in equity derivatives sales. He previously worked for BNP Paribas. Laurent Rimmen was recruited from Deutsche Bank to take up the role of director in fund derivatives sales and Arturo Bignardi was recruited as a director in equity derivatives trading from Alopex Capital Management. They are joined by former BNP Paribas analyst Emmanuel Baror, who will be a director in equity derivatives research at Barclays Capital.

The UK dealer also hired Kenny Li from Credit Suisse to work in its Hong Kong office as a director in equity derivatives sales. Li was joined by Wendy Kwan, who heads third-party distribution for Hong Kong. She previously worked for Deutsche Bank.

Barclays Capital also bolstered its Singapore office by hiring Yongsheng Tan from DBS as head of third-party distribution for South-east Asia and Werner Schlossmacher as head of private banking coverage for non-Japan Asia. Schlossmacher previously worked for the private banking arm of Credit Suisse.
