Puth quits JP Morgan

David Puth, head of global currencies and commodities at JP Morgan, has quit the US investment bank. Senior executives at JP Morgan said they were "very surprised" by his departure.

Puth was a veteran of the bank and added responsibility for emerging markets to his currencies and commodities remit in January this year. He originally joined Chemical Bank in 1988. Chemical subsequently merged with Chase Manhattan, which in turn bought JP Morgan to become JP Morgan Chase in 2000.

Blythe Masters, JP Morgan Investment Bank's chief financial officer, will take over Puth's role as head of currencies and commodities; JP Morgan will seek to recruit a new CFO. Daniel Pinto will be in charge of emerging markets and will join JP Morgan's management committee. Puth's own plans are not yet known.
