Swiss Re’s Wilson joins Oliver, Wyman
Oliver, Wyman & Company, the New York-based consultancy, plans to boost its risk management practice by hiring Tom Wilson, former Swiss Re New Markets chief financial officer and chief risk officer.
Joining Swiss Re New Markets in 1999 as chief risk officer, Wilson’s role was later expanded to include responsibility as chief financial officer. Prior to this he was global head of risk management at consultancy firm McKinsey & Company, developing its client base globally and building its technical practices, including new software design for credit risk measurement and portfolio management.
In his new role Wilson will divide his time between Europe and North America, but is effectively based in New York. Wilson holds a BSc in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley and a PhD in economics from Stanford University.
“As financial services companies increasingly integrate risk management into their business strategy, it is critical that we deepen the linkage between risk analytics and balance sheet and capital management, value-based strategic management and investor relations. Tom’s experience at one of the most innovative and dynamic financial services companies will help us address these issues that are at the core of the strategic finance agenda,” said John Drzik, chairman of Oliver, Wyman & Company.
Wilson’s departure from Swiss Re follows a reorganisation at the firm. Swiss Re New Markets is now part of Swiss Re's financial services business group, where Dieter Enkelmann is chief financial officer and Hans-Juergen Wolter heads up risk.
