Adair Turner will succeed Callum McCarthy as chairman of the UK Financial Services Authority in September this year.
An economist by training, Turner has chaired government commissions on climate change and public-sector pension provision, as well as the government's Economic and Social Research Council and the Confederation of British Industry, a pro-business lobbying group. He will succeed Callum McCarthy, who has headed the FSA since September 2003.
