Huey Evans joins Barclays

Gay Huey Evans has been appointed Barclays’ new vice-chairman of investment banking and investment management (IBIM). She takes up this newly created role in mid-April, and will focus on developing and managing relationships with sovereign funds.

Based in London, Huey Evans will report to Thomas Kalaris, the chief executive officer of Barclays Wealth, who is also a member of the IBIM executive committee.

She joins Barclays from Citi, where she was most recently the head of governance of Citi Alternative Investments, for the Europe, Middle East and Africa  markets. Huey Evans joined Citi in 2005 as the president of Tribeca Global Management, an investment management subsidiary of Citi Alternative Investments, which acquired Old Lane in 2007.

Before joining Citi, Huey Evans was the director of the markets division and capital markets sector leader at the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA), in London, where she worked for seven years. She is one of the FSA’s founding directors, and was responsible for developing the FSA’s approach to the supervision and surveillance of the UK financial markets. She has also served as the chairman of a joint forum dealing with issues related to global financial conglomerates, including market, credit, operational and credit risk.

Huey Evans joined the FSA from Bankers Trust - a New York-based financial services company owned by Deutsche Bank - as senior managing director in the risk management services division, where she had focused on derivatives and securitisation. She also served as chairperson of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association from 1994 to 1998.

IBIM comprises three of Barclays' divisions: Barclays Capital, the investment management arm; Barclays Global Investors, which is involved in asset management and provision of investment products and services; and Barclays Wealth, the wealth manager. Huey Evans will therefore be managing the operations of all three divisions, in this new position.
