Cruickshank to leave LSE in July 2003
London Stock Exchange’s (LSE) Don Cruikshank has said he will not seek re-appointment as chairman at the exchange’s next annual general meeting in July 2003.
“I will remain as chairman until the conclusion of the 2003 AGM, and during that time will offer my successor my full support," Cruikshank said. He became the exchange’s chairman back in May 2000.During his stewardship, the LSE has been involved in failed merger talks with Deutsche Börse and Nasdaq, and was also the subject of a failed £808 million hostile takeover bid by Swedish technology company OM Group in 2000.
It is believed Cruikshank is leaving for personal reasons. An LSE spokesman told RiskNews that Cruikshank’s future plans are not known, and that he will not retain any role at the exchange.
