Lazard hires Stonehill to build capital markets business

The investment banking unit of New York-headquartered Lazard has hired Charles Stonehill as London-based global head of its capital markets businesses, a newly created position.

The bank brought in Stonehill as part of an effort to build up capital markets business, which covers equity and fixed-income sales and trading, as well as derivatives, a spokeswomen said. Prior to joining Lazard, Stonehill was head of investment banking for North and South America at Credit Suisse First Boston. Previous to this he was head of Barclays de Zoete Wedd's investment banking division, and previously ran Morgan Stanley's European equity business.

David Tashjian, Lazard’s US head of capital markets, and Paul Gismondi, Lazard’s UK head of capital markets, will report to Stonehill.
