The CFTC's to-do list: 14 rules to go, from Sefs to Volcker

Just under 40 of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Dodd-Frank rules have been finalised and there are now only 14 to go. But they include some of the most controversial new regulations, and six have existed in proposal form for 500 days or more. Peter Madigan reports

As thrilling as they may appear in Hollywood death row melodramas, eleventh-hour stays of execution are rarely anything more than a minor postponement of the inevitable. Such was the pedestrian nature of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) simultaneous release last month of six no-action letters pushing back the deadline for the first major round of Dodd-Frank Act swap market reforms from October 12 to December 31 (see box, Playing for time: the October 12 no-action letters).
