Regional banks are dominating Asia's financial landscape, as the Asia Risk Awards 2012 demonstrate

This year’s awards issue has a clear theme: the rise of the regional players. Whether outright Asian firms, such as Kuala Lumpur-based CIMB or DBS, headquartered in Singapore, or firms like HSBC and Standard Chartered which have the majority of their business in the region, the common theme was local. And in the case of UBS, which won the currency derivatives crown for the first time, it can be argued that its global forex business is driven by Asian trends leaving just two US firms, JP Morgan
