Geithner plans to force OTC derivatives onto exchanges

The US Treasury will seek to fully regulate over-the-counter derivatives, secure the registration of large hedge funds with federal authorities and push ahead with plans to create a new systemic super regulator, Treasury secretary Timothy Geithner has announced.

Testifying in March before the US House Committee on Financial Services, Geithner revealed four major initiatives that represent a landmark departure from the current powers and jurisdiction of the existing fragmented US supervisory
