Congress approves Treasury hires

The US Treasury has appointed Charles Collyns as assistant secretary for international finance following his confirmation by the US Senate. Collyns, who previously served as the deputy director of the research department at the IMF, will lead the Treasury’s work on international monetary policy, international financial institutions and co-ordination with international bodies such as the G-8 and the G-20 on regional and bilateral economic issues.

Also confirmed was Mary John Miller, former director of the fixed income division at T Rowe Price, who has been appointed assistant secretary for financial markets. Miller will advise Treasury secretary Timothy Geithner on domestic finance, financial markets, federal, state and local finance, federal government credit policies, lending and privatisation. Collyns and Miller will be based in Washington, DC.
