Emisphere recruits chief financial officer

New York-based biopharmaceutical company Emisphere Technologies has hired former Ernst and Young derivatives specialist Elliot Maza as chief financial officer. He will be responsible for leading the company's effort in financial operations, planning and corporate governance.

At Ernst and Young, Maza served as a partner in transaction advisory services. His main responsibilities included advising clients on the implications of capital markets transactions on tax and financial statements, including asset securitization and derivatives. Before that he was vice-president of structured finance at Goldman Sachs.

Maza will have ultimate responsibility for the finance and accounting departments and report to Michael Goldberg, Emisphere’s chief executive.
