Fraud link to terrorism funding, BBA conference hears

Mark Rowley, head of specialist operations for London's Metropolitan police, highlighted the link between fraud and terrorism to an industry conference this week

Detecting fraud is key to counterterrorism strategy for London's Metropolitan police, a financial industry conference heard yesterday. Mark Rowley, the Met's assistant commissioner for specialist operations (which includes economic crime), told a British Bankers' Association financial crime conference that "a third of counterterrorism policing" as measured by arrests was fraud-related.

In particular, he singled out two types of fraud linked to radicalised British Muslims going overseas to join
