Senior lawyer behind mortgage mis-selling settlements to step down

Tony West, the senior US government lawyer who oversaw the recent multibillion dollar mortgage settlements, has resigned effective September 15.

West has served as associate attorney general, the third most senior position in the Department of Justice, since 2012 and oversaw the $16.6 billion settlement with Bank of America, the single largest corporate settlement in US history, as well as similar settlements with Citigroup.
