UK retail banking faces FSA supervision

LONDON - Proposals to consolidate the bulk of UK retail banking regulation under the Financial Services Authority (FSA) could shake up and rationalise a supervisory framework many consider to be a disjointed mix of regulatory responsibilities and ineffective self-regulation.

The FSA consultation paper outlining the proposals, released on November 4, also seeks to close some regulatory gaps revealed by the recent market crisis - FSA officials have highlighted that the hodgepodge of supervisors
