European Parliament proposes EU financial regulator

BRUSSELS - The European Parliament has dragged up the notion of a pan-European regulator yet again in a new draft parliamentary report. The draft report is a recommendation to the European Commission for a follow-up review of the Lamfalussy process and the future structure of supervision. The report proposes the transformation of the existing Lamfalussy committees from discussion boards into "supervisory agencies" with responsibility "to ensure supervisory convergence and a level playing field
