Insurance as an op risk management technique

All firms should be incentivised to align their insurance policies with their op risk expsoures, not just AMA firms

At the public hearing on the Committee of European Banking Supervisors' (Cebs) guidelines on operational risk mitigation techniques (CP25), one of the more interesting points raised was a suggestion regulators should be encouraging all firms, not just those taking the advanced measurement approach (AMA) to operational risk, to use insurance as an op risk management practice.

In a written response to CP25, Paris-based business and technology consulting firm Metametris said insurance management is
