Turner Review promises to shake up UK regulatory system

The biggest news in the UK this week has been the publication of the Turner Review from Adair Turner, chairman of the Financial Services Authority, which has been heralded as a definitive break from its previous "light-touch" approach to regulation and an attempt to set a new global standard. The regulator plans to curb excessive risk-taking by banks by forcing them to hold more capital and increase their liquid holdings. Turner also supported calls for the creation of a pan-European regulatory
