Types of op risk loss by event, September 2007 to September 2009

While losses were smaller this month, they involved a range of business lines and event types. The largest loss was a continuation of a multi-firm fraud event that began to surface during the previous month.

It is unusual to see a reported loss involving physical damage in the top five losses for financial services. When such disasters affect banks, they often affect customers too, thereby increasing an institution's exposure to credit
