CFTC commissioner renews support for over-the-counter energy clearing tool in the face of new Dodd-Frank rules that could affect operation
Commissioner Scott O’Malia of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) discussed the importance to the energy market of CME Group’s OTC clearing tool ClearPort last week at an energy conference held by the Futures Industry Association (FIA) in New York. He also voiced concerns that new regulations could discourage non-mandated clearing of energy transactions, going against one of the major aims of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
