Physical forwards stall as Italian power futures take off

Italian power futures launched on Borsa Italiana's IDEX platform on November 3, the same day as Gestore Mercato Elettrico (GME) launched a physical forward power exchange called MTE.

Borsa Italiana has reported a good start with more than one terawatt hours in contracts traded in the first three weeks. Thirteen electricity and financial players have signed up to trade, including most recent additions EDF and A2A. Dominant utility Enel is the key market maker, with Citigroup and Deutsche Bank
