US energy firms have plenty of work in the next few months as they seek to become compliant with new regulations stemming from the Dodd-Frank Act. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) voted to finalise the definition of a ‘swap’ on July 10, triggering a regulatory countdown that will force many companies to fundamentally change the way they trade derivatives.
