Rival TTF futures a threat to liquidity, fear energy traders

Plans by Ice and EEX to dodge EU price cap risk fragmenting the gas market

Market participants are worried that moves by exchanges to launch products that bypass the European Union’s gas price cap could end up damaging market liquidity if another spike in prices triggers the mechanism.

Ice warned that it could be forced to relocate trading of TTF futures away from the bloc in response to the temporary market correction mechanism, also known as the price cap, which was agreed upon by European energy ministers on December 19 and is set to take effect on February 15
