Valuation issues still a concern, says Duff & Phelps MD

The new head of the European complex asset solutions group at Duff & Phelps tells Credit that valuation issues remain a key challenge for the financial services sector.

The difficulties involved in valuing structured credit assets and other complex instruments were brought to the fore during the financial crisis. A clear example of this was the Troubled Asset Relief Program, introduced in the US in October 2008. The original goal of the US government was to purchase distressed credit assets from banks to help them repair damaged balance sheets.
