Germany hopes to fund SMEs through securitisation

SME securitisation is back on the agenda, with the release last month of new standards by the Association of German Banks. But questions remain over whether securitisation is a viable funding solution for cash-strapped SMEs.

When the Association of German Banks issued new standards for securitisations backed by loans to small and medium-sized enterprises last month, it was a reminder that the strata of companies too small to tap the capital markets directly have struggled to fund themselves
