Greenpeace protesters storm IPE

Open-outcry trade in Brent and gas oil futures at London’s International Petroleum Exchange was halted for over an hour on Wednesday afternoon after 50 to 60 protesters from environmental group Greenpeace stormed the building.

“A couple of van-loads [of protesters] turned up, and burst into the building commando-style,” said one floor trader.

The protesters, all sporting Greenpeace t-shirts, are thought to have forced their way into the building from the front, not the usual entrance for traders, from where they burst into the gallery that looks over the trading pits. Several protesters made it onto the floor itself near the gas oil pit, witnesses said.
