Interdealer brokers showed their mettle during the worst periods of the financial crisis, but have subsequently been rewarded by thin margins and low volumes across asset classes in the past six months.

The past year has seen a fundamental shift in trading patterns across Asia. In December 2008 and the first quarter of 2009, market participants were allocating funds to safe haven assets. But as the two-year old financial crisis started to wear off after March, the mood in the markets switched to debate over how and when central banks would exit from their crisis-fighting financial stimulus measures implemented during 2008 and 2009.
