Undeveloped Asian capital markets continue to make hedging difficult

Many Asian markets remain illiquid

An absence of counterparties and a limited local investor base are hindering the development of liquid markets for hedging products in most Asian jurisdictions, even including Hong Kong which has issues over liquidity at longer-dated tenors, according to leading figure from a local corporate.

Speaking at the Asian Financial Forum, Anthony Nightingale, non-executive director at Jardine Matheson Holdings, said conducting relatively vanilla interest rate swaps markets in Hong Kong was problematic
