Video: BlackRock's Deborah Fuhr on ETF development in Asia

Retail and institutional investors have increasingly embraced exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in Asia as a component of their asset allocation strategies

The current market environment, marked by high levels of correlations, has made it hard for investors to find individual bonds or stocks that can perform better than sectors and countries. This has made exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attractive for both retail and institutional investors, according to Deborah Fuhr, global head of ETF research and implementation strategy at BlackRock.

Fuhr says investors in Asia have increasingly embraced ETFs as one component of their asset allocation strategies. She adds that the phenomenon of ETFs trading at premium or discount prices is not exclusive to Asia, but that as foreign investors are limited to trade via quota in some Asian markets, such premia and discounts in ETF prices compared with net asset value tends to be more sustained.
