ING offloads stake in Indian bank, bringing capital relief

Market RWAs drop €2 billion following asset sale

Dutch lender ING sold its interest in Indian bank Kotak Mahindra in the first quarter, liberating €3.6 billion ($4 billion) of risk-weighted assets.

Of the total savings, €2 billion were reported under market risk. As a result, total market RWAs dropped 30% to €4.5 billion quarter-on-quarter. 

ING had no market RWAs calculated under the standardised approach as of end-2018, compared with €1.1 billion the prior quarter, meaning all its market risk exposures are now capitalised using the
