Germany leads the way on the AMA

No-one does the advanced measurement approach quite like the Germans. ORR looks at why so many German banks have achieved accreditation, how their relationship with their regulator works, and what lies in store for the next wave of AMA aspirants in the country

Germany has more banks using the advanced measurement approach (AMA) to operational risk than any other country in the world. Taking the AMA as the gold standard of operational risk excellence – as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision intended – this means the Germans are the de facto world champions at op risk. Most of the largest US banks will have barely begun to grapple with their AMA
