Buy-side CROs: to each investment strategy, a unique tech response

At the Buy-Side Technology North American Summit, a trio of chief risk officers (CROs) spanning boutique and institutional investment firms gave a candid take on the build-out of their risk management and reporting platforms. The scene, they said, isn't always a pretty one.

While it became immediately clear that a giant like Wells Fargo Asset Management and a far smaller shop like $2 billion Prologue Capital have different risk management challenges and priorities, some of their issues are indeed shared—namely, data integration, tailoring risk systems to reflect investment strategies, and properly capturing and reporting risk dynamics for internal and external parties.

As Prologue's CRO Jasmine Burgess put it, you can't have tolerance data
