Structured products distribution in Spain stalled during the financial crisis as banks turned away from open architecture. The answer seems to lie in fund-based products, for which the distribution networks remain open. Richard Jory reports from Structured Products España, held at Madrid’s Hotel Ritz in February

The distribution of structured products in Spain became more difficult during the financial crisis as the biggest distribution networks moved to close their architecture to external product creators. But there is still a route in. The distribution networks through which fund products are made available have remained open, and are drawing international banks back to Spain. Now that the crisis is subsiding, investors who like structured products are able to buy very simple, vanilla products
