Investors looking for return maximisation should set aside the money they need as a cushion and invest the rest in equities over the long term, according to Richard Oldfield, chief executive at Oldfield Partners.

Speaking at Hedge Funds Review's Family Office Leadership Summit held in London in mid-September, he said this was a strategy in which hedge funds may or may not play a part.

"If you strip out the market risk (from hedge funds) you are left with just the intelligence of the manager wh
