Asian banks must help boost domestic consumption

Asian banks need to play a bigger part in bolstering domestic consumption in their respective markets to help the region recover fully from the global financial crisis, now their governments have done their parts by introducing various fiscal stimulus measures.

That was the conclusion reached by senior management from leading banks in the region, including ICBC and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, during a panel discussion held on Tuesday at this year's Sibos event in Hong Kong. During the panel
