Dr. Andrew Coburn is a member of the senior management of Risk Management Solutions, Inc., the leading provider of catastrophe risk models to the financial services industry. In his 16 year career at RMS he has managed the development of many risk models, ranging from natural catastrophes, to terrorism, infectious disease, longevity and others. Dr. Coburn is recognized as an authority on catastrophe risk modelling.

Andrew is also part of the executive team of the Centre for Risk Studies, University of Cambridge. He leads a research programme into the risk of catastrophic collapse of complex systems, such as the financial system, and business trading interactions at risk from disruption from external threats. He is the Director of the External Advisory Board of the Centre for Risk Studies, interfacing between industry sponsors and the research team. He is currently coordinating a research programme on financial catastrophe risk, developing network models of the financial system and exploring how the science of financial risk and networks can inform and improve the risk management techniques of the investment and financial practitioner community

Andrew is the author of Earthquake Protection, co-authored with R.J.S. Spence, John Wiley & Sons, first edition 1998, second edition 2002. Reinsurance, contributing author with RL Carter, N Ralph, Witherby International, 4th edition 2001, 5th edition 2013.
