CFTC commissioner seeks more time for penalty cases

Commissioner Bart Chilton at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has told Operational Risk & Regulation he will call for Congress to extend the current five-year statute of limitations for bringing civil penalty claims in the US against financial organisations.

This follows a decision on February 27 by the US Supreme Court to reject efforts by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to extend the limitations period.
