In an expansive interview, Gabriel Bernardino, chairman of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (Eiopa) discusses a number of issues facing insurers.

Bernardino talks about the inability to achieve a comprehensive position among supervisors on formulation of the volatility adjustment (VA), his priorities for revising Solvency II and Eiopa's position on counter-cyclical buffers and extra liquidity requirements for insurers proposed by the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB)
