Swiss Re appoints new COO

Agostino Galvagni has been named as the new chief operating officer of Swiss Re and will also join the insurer's executive committee.

Galvagni, currently head of insurance and specialty in client markets, began his career with former Swiss Re subsidiary Bavarian Re before joining Swiss Re in 2001 as head of the global business unit in Zurich.

In September 2005 he was appointed to the executive board and was made head of the newly formed globals and large risks division
