Mifid II threatens dealing commissions and broker research

Ring-fenced research pots required to cut out inducements

When former European Internal Market and Services Commissioner Michel Barnier unveiled his consultation paper on the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (Mifid II) in December 2010, he described it as half of Dodd-Frank, and it is certainly a big-ticket item.

With Mifid II regulations scheduled to go into effect on January 3, 2017 – capturing bonds and derivatives as well as the equities covered in its predecessor – there are a number of key areas that should concern hedge fund managers
