Clearing
A mechanism by which transactions are settled through an organisation that assures settlement. Clearing is being mandated for many types of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives by rules that form part of the G-20 2009 Pittsburgh Agreement and is being implemented in rules such as the Dodd-Frank Act in the US, and the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR).
