The International Perspective

Lourenco Miranda

This book has focused on the capital planning and stress testing of banks and non-bank financial institutions in the US. While readers who live in the vast and vibrant area between Maine and Hawaii may be forgiven for assuming that the Grand Old Republic is the centre of the banking and financial world, the reality is a bit more nuanced. While the US is still the world’s biggest economy, it does not have the biggest banks, far from it in fact. Table 10.1 provides a list of the world’s 15 biggest banks as of 2015.
