At bang on the appointed time, Standard Chartered's new group head of financial markets heaves into view on the video screen in the firm's Hong Kong offices. Just nine weeks into the job, at the time of interview, Jonathan Paul has needed precision time management to master a schedule that was about to see him jet off to China and had already taken him to the US, Dubai, Hong Kong and London – twice – as well as his Singapore base, meeting several hundred people face-to-face in the process.
