On April 30 the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) celebrated its fortieth anniversary but in the 1960s its ill-fated predecessor the Bangkok Stock Exchange (BSE) saw declining volumes leading to its wind-up after just 10 years in business. According to the SET website, "it is generally accepted that the BSE failed to succeed because of a lack of official government support and a limited investor understanding of the equity market."
