Certificates of deposit becoming 'harder than ever to structure'

Certificates of deposit (CDs) are becoming increasingly difficult to structure in the US, say industry participants. Though demand for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)-backed notes is still there, with interest rates at historic lows structurers are struggling to create them.

"With rates getting so low, especially in the past month, some CD structures just cannot be produced," says John Tessar, head of structured products at Florida-based distributor JVB Financial.
