S&P includes Egyptian stocks in index, despite political unrest

In response to investor demand for exposure to countries with sophisticated financial systems and rapidly maturing equity markets, Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has launched an index linked to Colombian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Egyptian, Turkish and South African (Civets) stocks.

The S&P Civets 60 tradable index targets second-generation emerging markets, characterised by dynamic, rapidly changing economies and young, growing populations.
