Euroclear's global Collateral Highway is the first fully open global market infrastructure to source and mobilise collateral across borders. It helps market participants move securities from wherever they are held to serve as collateral for access to central bank liquidity, secured transactions such as repos and securities loans, margins for CCPs and bi-laterally cleared OTC derivative trades.
The Collateral Highway has multiple collateral entry and exit points. The entry points are where collateral is sourced from all Euroclear central securities depositories (CSDs), agent banks, clearers and other CSDs located in any time zone. The assets are then transported to where they are needed as collateral.
The Collateral Highway is open to all CCPs, CSDs, central banks, global and local custodians, investment and commercial banks. Custodians, agent banks and CSDs without a collateral management service offering are able to use the Collateral Highway as their own for their clients.
As part of its service, Euroclear monitors, values and substitutes securities used as collateral when and if needed during the life cycle of the transaction, and returns the securities to the original place of deposit when they are no longer needed.
The Collateral Highway is well suited to meet increasing collateral demands triggered by new regulations and the new T2S environment. Four Euroclear CSDs (in Belgium, Finland, France and the Netherlands) will be migrating to T2S. Euroclear UK & Ireland and Euroclear Bank, the international CSD, each have a wide range of collateral management services to offer their clients.
• Charging basis: Euroclear services are charged on a sliding-scale basis.
• Assets under custody: €23 trillion, with more than €800 billion of collateral movements daily.
• Total number of clients: Euroclear clients rank among the world's leading financial institutions.
• Main clients: Investment banks, brokerdealers, global and local custodians, commercial banks, central banks, CCPs, supranationals and issuers of securities in multiple markets.
