Curriculum
The specialized one-year MFE curriculum integrates mathematical, statistical, and computer science tools with finance theory as applied in industry settings. MFE students are challenged with a curriculum that is solidly based on the paradigm of providing students not only with technical knowledge, but also with the practical knowledge and skills needed to excel in the financial industry. As part of the MFE Program, students obtain a foundational knowledge of the business environment through coursework in corporate finance and accounting, and basic investment theory. The quantitative focus of the MFE Program carries through courses in Empirical Methods in Finance, Derivatives Markets, Computational Methods in Finance, Quantitative Asset Management, Credit Markets and Risk Management. The Summer Internship and the Applied Finance Project, which serve as capstones to the MFE curriculum, allow students to gain practical experience applying their financial engineering knowledge in a real-world setting. In addition, the Financial Institutions Seminar Series allows students to learn first-hand about financial engineering from active practitioners in areas such as investment management, venture capital and private equity, corporate finance, investment banking, risk management, credit rating agencies and others.
