Name: UCLA Anderson
The Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) Program at UCLA Anderson is designed for individuals who want to apply their analytical skills to a satisfying career in the world of quantitative finance. Students are taught to apply cutting-edge theory to various aspects of the financial markets, from equities to fixed income, currencies to commodities. Students are prepared for careers in quantitative research, derivatives structuring, modeling & pricing, trading, investment management and corporate risk management. The program balances academic rigor with practical application to create a challenging and relevant curriculum, with courses taught by faculty that are world renowned in both the theory and the practice of quantitative finance. As a part of the UCLA Anderson School of Management, the MFE Program enjoys unique advantages not available to other programs, many of which are not part of a business school environment.
The specialized one-year MFE curriculum integrates mathematical, statistical, and computer science tools with finance theory as applied in industry settings. MFE students are challenged with a curriculum that is solidly based on the paradigm of providing students not only with technical knowledge, but also with the practical knowledge and skills needed to excel in the financial industry. As part of the MFE Program, students obtain a foundational knowledge of the business environment through coursework in corporate finance and accounting, and basic investment theory. The quantitative focus of the MFE Program carries through courses in Empirical Methods in Finance, Derivatives Markets, Computational Methods in Finance, Quantitative Asset Management, Credit Markets and Risk Management. The Summer Internship and the Applied Finance Project, which serve as capstones to the MFE curriculum, allow students to gain practical experience applying their financial engineering knowledge in a real-world setting. In addition, the Financial Institutions Seminar Series allows students to learn first-hand about financial engineering from active practitioners in areas such as investment management, venture capital and private equity, corporate finance, investment banking, risk management, credit rating agencies and others.
UCLA Anderson MFE faculty are among the world's best. Consistently top-rated, they are leaders in cutting-edge financial engineering research as well as the practical implementation of current theory. In addition to UCLA Anderson faculty, MFE students learn from guest lecturers who work in prominent financial institutions and from professors of other top tier business schools. Faculty include: Professors Eduardo Schwartz, Francis Longstaff, Robert Geske, and Philippe Jorion.
MFE students receive tailored, one-on-one career coaching. The Director of Career Services is solely dedicated to MFE students, providing assistance with internship and career placement.
