Banks that opted to have their finance and accounting departments build credit models to comply with new accounting standards are facing a backlash from risk managers.

Although most banks have tasked their risk departments to repurpose existing Basel III internal ratings-based (IRB) capital models to calculate expected credit losses for International Financial Reporting Standard 9 (IFRS 9), some have chosen to build these models from scratch within their finance departments.
