Platts’ new coal price assessment reflects Indian potential

Energy and metals information provider Platts' launch of a daily spot value for thermal coal in India demonstrates the country's potential to become the world's biggest coal player, say analysts.

The new price assessments will include added freight rates from South Africa to India's east and west coasts. They have been designed to meet the requirements of power producers, cement manufacturers, coal traders and ship brokers for an independent source of India-based open-market spot prices.
